Olympus turns U.S. government data — Census demographics, public school directories, SEC filings and financials — into focused APIs. Every value says where it came from, which release it belongs to and when it changed.
Each API covers one domain. We say exactly what is covered and what isn't, so you know what you can build on before you write any code. See the full catalogue, including the APIs we plan to add.
Census · NCES
US Geographic & Demographics API
American Community Survey 5-year demographics for ZIP Code Tabulation Areas and counties, nearby NCES public schools, and side-by-side comparison with significance testing.
SEC registrants by CIK or ticker, 10-K and 10-Q filing metadata, and eight standardised XBRL metrics with annual and quarterly history, restatement flags and cross-company comparison.
Government data is authoritative but hard to cite: releases are revised, geographies don't line up and caveats sit in technical documentation. Olympus puts that context into the response.
Coverage, stated
Responses include a meta.coverage block and notices, e.g. that a ZCTA is not a USPS ZIP code. The coverage page lists every source, vintage and known gap.
Evidence on every record
Each record carries provenance: the upstream URL, source release, publication time, schema version and validation status. SEC values link to the EDGAR filing they were taken from.
Change you can track
Data is published in validated releases listed in meta.datasets. Records keep their original published_at until they change; restated SEC values are flagged with the first reported figure alongside.
Limits
Our data has limits, and we say what they are.
Some things we don't do, so nobody expects them:
ACS figures are 5-year survey estimates with margins of error. They describe a period, not today.
ZCTAs approximate ZIP code areas. A code that has no ZCTA returns 404 ZCTA_NOT_FOUND — we don't guess a crosswalk.
No crime data, school ratings, risk scores or predictive scores.
SEC values are as filed, from EDGAR bulk archives refreshed nightly. We don't estimate or derive anything. No real-time streaming or full-text search.
