Where alcohol and entertainment are licensed.
Premises licences and club premises certificates from council licensing registers, in one schema: the premises and its address, licensable activities, permitted hours, status and dates, and the licence holder when it is a company or other organisation. Every value says which row or PDF page it was read from.

}Premises and organisations, not people.
Designated premises supervisors, personal licences and temporary event notices are never included, and neither are holders' own addresses, phone numbers or e-mail addresses. Premises that look like private homes are left out and counted.
A licence holder is shown only on firm evidence that it is an organisation. Otherwise the holder is withheld, with a reason code, so you can tell a withheld holder from one the council does not publish.
Licences, councils, coverage.
Coverage lists every council source with its licence as the council states it, how many holders were published or withheld, and what was excluded.
| Endpoint | What it returns |
|---|---|
| GET/v1/uk-premises-licensing/licences | Search premises licences |
| GET/v1/uk-premises-licensing/licences/{licence_id} | One licence with the provenance of every field |
| GET/v1/uk-premises-licensing/councils/{code} | One council's published premises licences |
| GET/v1/uk-premises-licensing/coverage | What is served, from which councils, under which terms |
When a holder is shown.
Councils are identified by their ONS GSS code and carry the shared entity_id, identifiers and related blocks; organisation holders link to company data only through a Companies House number the council prints, never by name.
| holder | Rule |
|---|---|
| companies_house_number | The council prints the holder's Companies House number. |
| legal_form_suffix | The name ends in a legal form: Ltd, Limited, PLC, LLP, CIC and similar. |
| organisational_form | A body that is never a person: a council, NHS body, university, school, trust, church, club or charity. |
| withheld | Anything else, including a title (Mr, Mrs), a "t/a" form or several named holders: the name is not shown. |
Limits
Some councils only
Only the councils the coverage endpoint lists, and only registers whose terms allow commercial reuse. Councils publish different fields: some include hours and activities, some only the premises.
As printed
Values are kept as each council prints them. Status, licence type and activities are also given in a normalised form, marked as derived.
Strict on people
The holder rule errs towards withholding: some organisations without a legal form in their name are withheld too.
